Who are we?

The Academy of Parish Clergy is an interfaith, voluntary, and self-governing association of ordained persons occupying clerical roles, ordinarily in a congregational, judicatory or chaplaincy setting, who seek GROWTH TOWARDS EXCELLENCE IN MINISTRY THROUGH SHARING THE PRACTICE.

Requirements for Membership:

Ordained persons occupying clerical roles and members of religious orders .(as defined by their governing body) are eligible for membership in the Academy, provided they:

  1. Are in good standing in their faith group.
  2. Subscribe to, or affirm, the APC Standards of Competence.
  3. Subscribe to, or affirm, the APC Code of Ethics.
  4. Pay the required Academy membership dues.

Privileges of Membership:

Members of the Academy of Parish Clergy receive:

  1. Links with other dedicated colleagues for improvement of self and peers in our work as clergy.
  2. A Certificate of APC membership.
  3. An APC pin.
  4. The privilege of attending and voting at APC Annual Convocations.
  5. A sense of doing something real and effective to improve the profession of the clergy person
  6. The privilege of using the initials "APC" after their names on all formal correspondence and documents (except for Seminarian Members). Fellows of the Academy are privileged to use "FAPC" after their names.
  7. Through the Academy's affiliation with the Society for the Advancement of Continuing Education (SACEM), contact with strategies for continuing education on the Seminary Level.
  8. Access to the following Academy publications:

     

    1. Sharing the Practice -- the quarterly journal of the Academy.
    2. The APC Members Newsletter -- Web Page.
    3. The Directory of Members -- The Directory of Members us suplied through an e-mail attachment for ease of downloading and updating.  Members without computers will receive a paper copy.
    4. Occasional papers
    5. The Guide for Continuing Growth -- for experienced pastors, or after thee years of membership, on request from the APC office.  Leads to becoming a Fellow of the Academy
  9. Opportunities to:
    1. Contribute to the APC Endowment Fund.
    2. Belong to Colleague Groups, where available.
    3. Belong to local Chapters, where available.
    4. Serve on the APC National Board and hold office.
    5. Lead workshops in the Annual Convocation.
    6. Publish articles in Sharing the Practice.
    7. Share your practice at the Annual Convocation.
    8. Associate with ecumenical clergy.
    9. Review newly published books and add to your library.
    10. Receive "clock hours" or C.E.U.'s for your work.
    11. Follow one or more of the four APC Study Paths.
    12. Use the referral system to put you in touch with colleagues who have completed projects in areas of interest to you.
