NOMINATION FOR PARISH PASTOR OF THE YEAR AWARD – 2010

Our Academy will present this award to a chosen nominee at its Annual Conference, April 20-22, 2010, in Racine, Wisconsin.  All expenses will be paid by the APC for the pastor chosen.  NOMINATION DEADLINE IS MARCH 5, 2010.  The conference theme is "Strengthening Those Who Preach," presented by Dr. Craig Satterlee, Professor of Homiletics, Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, author, preacher, pastor and congregational consultant.

Below are four behavioral characteristics of the nominee to be described. The commentary which follows each characteristic is to help understand each characteristic.  Use one or more separate sheets to describe how the pastor/nominee demonstrates or exhibits these four characteristics.  This nomination will have multiple endorsements from various persons and their perspective or relationship.  Please return ASAP to the name and address posted at the end.

1.  FAITHFULNESS:  Describe this person's personal faith as it is grounded in a connection and time with God (including devotional life) and how this person helps persons mature in the faith and encourages others along their faith journeys.  These are personal and spiritual characteristics.

2.  PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:  Describe this pastor's personal motivation (self-starter and intentionally driven and called to do the work of mission and ministry).  How does this person adapt to options and works collaboratively with a variety of perspectives?  Describe this person's self care habits and the support they have from spouse/partner/family.  When things don't go as planned, what is the ability to get back up and try again with another approach?  What is the evidence of focused continuing education?  Is a code of ethics and conduct apparent and kept?

3.  LEADERSHIP:  Describe how this person fosters and leads with a sense of unity of spirit and purpose; how the congregation/ministry is led in discerning and see God's future with all and clarity is achieved through the gifts of this nominee?  How does their leadership share credit with others involved in the same ministry?  How do others in the ministry get connected to ministry using their gifts as ways to serve?  How does the nominee build relationships in ministry? 

4.  CONGREGATIONAL OBJECTIVES:  How does the congregation/ministry show intentionality in reaching new people and growing in worship attendance and service as part of the pastor's leadership?  How does the congregation become more relevant and faithful to the larger community?  How does the pastor's ministry connect with people outside the membership?
